codeRED Battle for Earth

CodeRED: Battle for Earth is a first person shooter that uses the open source Quake 2 game engine. Recently added to the Free Games A-Z list, here's my experience from download to game-play.

Download:
Rating: 6/10
My first attempt at downloading CodeRED Battle for Earth probably started where everyone else’s experience starts. I click on the very first link, the File Planet link for version 1.1 Full Install, and was immediately taken to a standard File Planet download screen for CodeRED Battle for Earth. Not being a paying subscriber to File Planet one has to wait in the non-subscribers line of 300 + people. No dice, so I decided to go back and find another download link. I received basically the same results at both the FileShack and GameCenter links. My success game by choosing the Gamers Hell link and after approximately 5 clicks (be careful to follow where your going some screens pop-up) I finally started to see the download status screen. The .zip file was about 95MB and should take about 10 minutes with a high speed connection.

Installation:
Rating: 8/10
Installation was fairly easy, first you unzip the downloaded CodeRED file once that’s complete open windows explorer and find the CodeRED.exe file where it was unzipped. Double click on this and a standard Windows install wizard will appear and walk you through the rest of the installation. The one problem is that it does not install any short cuts onto your desktop or start menu, you’ll have to go in through explorer and create your own.
