Guide Review - Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring
With gameplay similar to many other RTS games, War of the Ring will keep players intrigued by a storyline that includes various missions that recreate some of the well known battles from the books. Missions begin like many RTS games do, with you controlling some troops and a few buildings. You'll then slowly build an army as large as you can in order to do battle with the enemy.
The graphics for War of the Ring are good, there aren't the many cinematic movie style scenes you'll find in other LOTR titles but the graphics work with nice animation and gameplay interface.
War of the Ring uses the Battle Realms game engine and the single player portion of the game contains 2 campaigns and 10 missions. The good AI makes it quite engaging. The various multiplayer modes also offer a good gameplay experience.
The similarity of gameplay to other RTS games such as Warcraft or the Age series RTS games may get tiresome if you're looking for something new and exciting. Seeing all the characters from the books and battling though some of the missions, however, is what makes this game work as well as it does.
Overall War of the Rings isn't a new ground breaking game but that doesn't matter. It's nice gameplay, graphics and of course the setting of Middle Earth is what makes this a good addition for Lord of the Rings fans.
