Product Summary
The Thing

The Thing
"Where the movie ends, the true terror begins."
Guide Rating -
Pros  •  Good graphics
•  AI is not mindless, team members actually needed & helpful.
•  Storyline based on what happens after the movie "The Thing" ends.
Cons  •  Very limited amount of weapons.
•  Extreme limited ability to look up or down.
•  No jump feature.
The Bottom Line - A great story line that falls short in overall game-play. Doesn't live up to the classic John Carpenter Horror film.

Guide Review
The Thing
Being a huge fan of The Thing filmed in 1982 by John Carpenter, I was very excited about this game. Sierra has come up with what I think is a terrific story line to follow up this movie, but falls short in a few areas of game-play that would make this title better.

First, there are far too few and uninteresting weapons. My second complaint about the weapons is the way that they fire. The aiming of weapons is automatic, making it a little less like an action game and more like a storybook game. Finally there is no option to go what I call "Full First Person" you can look up or down only when standing still and holding the shift key. Otherwise it's all from behind the main character.

One of the positives besides the storyline is the AI. It's amazing, your teammates moods and reactions to your actions do matter. You have to pay attention to them and keep them together or the game could end very quickly. Overall, I bought this game because of the movie, I enjoy the storyline and would recommend this to a fan of the movie, the little annoyances explained above however, really hurt this game. It seems to me that Sierra rushed a little on this one, I wish it was truely a first person shooter. I also think it would have been nice to have gone in as a "Top-Secret" Special Ops team with a set number of team members, more weapons, night scopes, etc... Then as the game progresses your team divndles or survives based on your ability to keep them together and away from The Thing.
