Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords is set in the year 2225. Humans, in order to defend themselves, have formed a colaition against the Drengin Empire. This evil empire has formed an alliance of their own to search the galaxay for ancient technologies that can help them erridacte humans from the galaxy. Little do both sides know that there are darker, more evil things in the far reaches of the universe.
Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords follows up the popular Galactic Civilizations from Stardock. Like Galactic Civilizations, Dread Lords is a turned base strategy game and has the same overall premise of building a space civilization, but Galactiv Civilizations II also contains many new game play features.

- Advanced Ship desing - Players can create custom ships based on their own designs and research
- Unique Planets - Each planet is unique, with different land types, size and more.
- Play As Any Race - Players have the ability to play as one of 10 alien races.
- Enhanced Combat System - Three types of attacks and defense, with different races having varying weapon systems.
