Codename Panzers: Cold War is the third installment of the popular Codename Panzer series of real time strategy games. This chapter moves the timeline forward to the post-World War 2 Cold War era. Set in the early 1950s, the Soviet Union has undergone a large expansion in military capacity and is looking to expand their reach into Western Europe. The game's conflict begins with a reinactment of an attack by Soviet MiG 15 fighers on NATO planes headed for Tempelhof Airport. It's at this point where Codename Panzer Cold War differs from the historical record of the incident as the confrontation soon leads to all out war.
The single player portion of Codename Panzers: Cold War contains 18 missions that take players on through landscapes and cities of Western Europe and into the former Soviet Union (what is now present day Kazakhstan). There is also a scenario mode which allows you to replay various battles and a multiplayer mode that has more than 20 maps playable in three different game modes.
