Graphics & Sound
The detailed environments and game settings are as much a part of the story as the characters and game play. The texturing and models are very nicely done, buildings look like they were hand picked right out of a medieval city, right down to the decaying stone of castle walls to the rotting wood run down hovels. The lighting effects also help in setting the dark and dreary atmosphere that the game takes place in.
As mentioned before the voice acting in The Witcher could be better, characters often say things that are out of context and out of place for a fantasy medieval setting. The muscial score and sound effects however are excellent; the score just seems to put the finishing touches that makes the story fun to follow and play through.
Bottom Line
The Witcher is not without some issues however. The initial retail release is full of technical bugs and random crashes that do no appear completely fixed even after the release of the first patch. At times the storyline feels disconnected from mission to mission, cut scenes fail to tell the enture story giving you the feeling that you've missed some important details. That being said, most computer RPG fans should find a lot to like in The Witcher; it has some fun game play and mechanics, very good graphics and engaging storyline.
