Guide Review - Sid Meier's Pirates! Review
The game begins with you vowing revenge against the nobleman responsible for imprisoning your family. By selecting one of four nations; the English, French, Dutch or Spanish, you begin your career on the high seas.
Sailing the Caribbean Sea is a large part of the game and engagements/battles with other ships are very detailed and fun to play. These battles, however, are a bit too easy and predictable on the lower difficulty levels of play and I recommend trying different levels of difficulty to find the one that's challenging for yourself. Capturing ships also is more challenging at higher levels.
In Pirates! you also engage in land battles on enemy ports in which you'll have three different units at your disposal. Ultimately these battles will lead to the game's goal of freeing your imprisoned family. Other mini missions or games in ports involves you sneaking through the dark streets while avoiding the town guard, get caught and you'll wind up in prison.
Finally, there's more strategy, action and adventure in other parts of Pirates! that help your character progress. They include merchant trading, ship management, dancing (yes, dancing), bar fights, and more. This wide range of game-play makes replayability high.
