This year has been one of the biggest for computer games. The release of next generation fps of Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 has revitalized a the once floundering PC game genre, and it's gearing up for more with the holiday season upon us once again. Here's a list of some of my favorite titles that are either on shelves or soon will be for the holiday shopping season of 2004.
After more than a one year delay and code theft, Half Life 2 comes to us better than expected. The engaging storyline and next generation graphics make the game one of the best ever.
Doom 3 suffered through similar delays as half Life 2 did and in the end is an excellent game. The graphics are 2nd to none. The story is a retelling of the original Doom but its done so well it will frighten you out of your seat.
After 2 expansion packs the Medal of Honor series has moved to the Pacific Theater of Operations. It takes you aboard naval ships island hopping through World War against Japan. Medal of Honor Pacific Assault is stand alone game and not an expansion to Allied Assault.
There wont be a Lord of the Rings movie release this holiday season but a much anticipated real time strategy game is set to hit store shelves. Battle for Middle Earth tells the entire saga through a real time strategy game with you making the major decisions. All your favorite characters available, supports single and multiplayer modes.
The year of the sequels continues with Everquest 2 follow-up to the most popular massively multiplayer online game world ever. EQ2 is set some 500 years after the original Everquest and includes more freedom in choosing and playing out your characters career.
The popular miniature table top game Warhammer finally been given a computer game that excellently translates the table top rules onto your PC screen. With stunning graphics detail, fans will be engaged for hours with the Space Marines single player mode or the more flexible multiplayer gameplay.
World of Warcraft is a massively multiplayer game from Blizzard that moves its popular game world from a real time strategy game format to a first person massively multiplayer online role playing game(MMORPG) format. Players assume the roles of Warcraft heroes as they explore, adventure, and quest across a vast world. So far this game looks gorgious. Look out Everquest, after 9 months of beta play testing the world is ready for Warcraft.
If you like Battlefield 1942 or Battlefield Vietnam then Star Wars Battlefront is the game for you. With the background setting of the Star Wars universe you can play in massive online battles as one of your favorite star wars characters/classes. Dozens of maps and classes to choose from.
Based on the White Wolf role playing game, Bloodlines has a nice mix of first person shooter and role-playing game action. Developed using the same technology as Half-Life 2 the graphics bring to life the under ground world of vampires.
Men of Valor is a historical first person shooter set during the Vietnam war. Not hyped as much as other fps, it does reveal some great game-play and graphics. Once youve finished the single player campaign, there are numerous multiplayer modes to keep you playing.
