The opening mission is a great tutorial that will allow you to become more than familiar with the game controls and enhancing your ability and tact on how to scare the mortals within the houses and buildings you are haunting.
Sounds simple, but one twist that makes this game ever more challenging is that each person you have to scare has their own set of beliefs and feelings on the existence of ghosts. The sound of a dripping faucet may not scare someone as much as the other. On top of trying to manage who's going to be easy to scare and who's not, there are also dozens of different types of ghosts with varying powers that you must manage.
Prior to each mission or haunting, as Ghost Master, you must select the ghosts that you think will scare the inhabitants the most. For beginners it's usually a good idea to go with the game's recommendations until you get a feel for each ghost and their powers. Another factor a ghost master must face is keeping an eye on his Ghost Plasm.
Ghost Plasm can be thought of as resources or energy. The more Ghost Plasm you have, the more tricks, haunts, and spells your ghost can perform. A rattling of chains by one ghost isn't going to cost as much Ghost Plasm as the crack of thunder and lightening would another. At the start you're provided with very little Ghost Plasm and can gain more by successfully scaring people. Therefore, locations and positioning of your ghosts in a "high traffic" area is very important, on top of starting out performing "low cost" Ghost Plasm haunts.
As the game progresses you will get a feel for some of the ghost powers and ghosts. Try to avoid developing a preference on using the same ghosts for each haunt, this will just limit your game play experience, for there are more and more new ghost that become available throughout the game with unique powers sure to send mortals screaming.
The graphics of Ghost Master are excellent, the game is fully 3D, and provides a nice interface for changing views. It even allows you to either see the game through the eyes of the ghosts or the people you're trying to haunt.
My machine only met the minimum requirements and I found that some of the graphics and in-game cinematics were a bit choppy and appeared to skip over frames at times. Especially when navigating around from in different views and perspectives. The recommended requirements, however, should meet all the memory and graphic needs of this game. Overall, Ghost Master provides a fun original story line with unique game-play.
