The main storyline of Prototype surrourds a mysterious virus that has infected New York City and has thrown it into martial law. In Prototype, players take on the role of Alex Mercer, a former employee of a bio-engineering company, who mysteriously wakes up with amnesia to suddenly realize he possesses special powers that allow him to shape shift, absorb memories and alter his own genes which gives him superhuman strength and speed.
Prototype is a third person sandbox action game which allows players to roam all through a virtual New York as you try to uncover Alex's past and expose the possible conspiracy surrounding the virus outbreak. With the sandbox game play, players have a great deal of freedom to explore the city and complete side missions and overall objectives at their own pace.
