Brothers in Arms Earned in Blood is probably the least know of the Brothers In Arms games. In it you'll play as an American corporal named Joe Hartsock. The storyline follows his true life experiences in the 15 days following D-Day.

Wolfenstein 3D was quite controversial when it was released with it's use of the Swastika and the Nazi anthem as theme music in the game. In spite of this, Wolfenstein 3D was well received and helped launch the first person shooter video game genre. The original DOS version won't run on Windows XP or Vista without something like DOSBox, but it has been updated to run on modern PCs and is available through various outlets. I wouldn't expect any state of the art graphics but the game play is still just as fun as it was 16 years ago.

The team based multiplayer game Day of Defeat has gone through quite a few versions. It started out as a full Half-Life modification and then was released as a stand alone game. The latest version known as Day of Defeat Source is built off of the Source game engine. Set in 1944 in the European theater of operations players can choose any of the six factions for either the German or American forces.

Hidden & Dangerous is another one of those older first person shooters that may not look as great as something released today but the game play is still a blast. In Hidden & Dangerous players control a British SAS unit on recue missions, sabotage and other operations that involve stealth and secrecy. This title has since been released as freeware.

Set in the Eastern Front during World War II, players can choose between Soviet or German forces in this multiplayer first person shooter. Red Orchestra Osfront 41-45 is mostly a multiplayer game but does contain a brief tutorial style single player portion. Red Orchestra Osfront 41-45 contains a more "realistic" style of game play by not being aided with crosshairs when firing as well as firing from the hip and more.

Deadly Dozen was one of the first squad based World War 2 first person shooters, although it's not as advanced as some of the newer squad based games such as the Brothers In Arms series. The backgroud story of Deadly Dozen loosly follows the movie The Dirty Dozen. In it you'll control a group of army misfits on missions inside German territory.

Medal of Honor Pacific Assault is the first and only Medal of Honor game that takes place entirely in the Pacific Theater of operations during World War 2. Players take on the role of a US Marine and play through missions through the attack on Pearl Harbor, Makin Atoll, Guadalcanal and more. Medal of Honor Pacific Assault also contains a multiplayer mode with eight maps and three multiplayer gameplay modes.

Commandos Strike Force is the fifth game in the Commandos series of World War 2 games but the first, first person shooter. Missions are objective based and involve plenty of combat and stealth. Players also have the ability to switch between different characters in their commando unit.

Rounding out the top 20 is World War 2 Sniper Call to Victory. Actually it was more difficult finding 20 World War 2 shooters to rank. Sniper Call to Victory is a budget game which did not receive a lot of press or good reviews for that matter but hey it's a WW2 shooter that should be good enought right?! In WW2 Sniper players take on the role of a US Airborne sniper.
